The skills that students gain from a solid science education, including problem-solving, decision making and scientific literacy are growing ever more important in modern society. The curriculum, therefore, is designed around multiple course offerings for students over a wide range of interests and abilities. Moreover, the CAHS science curriculum reflects the educational demands for living in our science-driven, industrialized society as well as the human values of this age and meets all California state standards. We seek a balance among the traditional science disciplines and science as a means of solving current problems and shaping the future. Our science courses are developed within the principles of mastery learning and are, therefore, organized by individual units with specific objectives. This philosophy helps create a science program that is competency-assessed and enjoyable for students with clear expectations.
